Many are already aware of the dangers of sugar but it is not uncommon to ignore it because they are already very familiar with sugar intake for their daily activities. However, don’t worry, there are some natural sweeteners that still give a sweet taste but with a more minimal danger when compared to ordinary sugar.

So what are those 5 sweetener that can be alternative to white sugar?

  1. Cane sugar is made from the same source as white sugar. It’s just that cane sugar doesn’t go through a refining process that causes chemical additions to white sugar and the loss of many valuable minerals. However, monk fruit sugar has a sweetness level of around 150 – 200 times higher than ordinary white sugar. Many like monk fruit sugar because of its taste which does not change the taste of food and has zero calories. But unfortunately monk fruit sugar is still rare in most countries.
  4. Beet sugar contains oligosaccharide which is good for intestinal health. It’s just that this type of sugar is still not widely available.
  5. Coconut sugar is made from coconut tree saps. Coconut sugar has lower calories compared to white sugar and is rich in minerals that are beneficial to the body. It also taste delicious. But the flavor is quite rich. So you need to avoid using coconut sugar if you don’t want the flavor to stand out.

Although these five sugar substitutes are low in calories and sugar, it’s good to still limit the use of this substitute sugar and increase the intake of sweet foods in natural forms such as fresh fruits that are also rich in vitamins and minerals.
